What's the deal with ballet slippers anyway?

When buying a pair of ballet slippers it is very important to buy the correct size. Leather ballet slippers are best and also tend to stretch. Keep that in mind when trying on your shoes. Ballet slippers should fit like a glove. Not too big. Not too small. Tighter tends to be better as they will stretch out after a class or two.
 
It is important to not confuse ballet inspired house "slippers" with the more substantial leather ballet shoe. Real ballet slippers are made of leather or canvas and have an elastic strap on the top and an elastic binding running along the mouth of the shoe. You can adjust these to fit your foot perfectly. The house "slipper" is for dress up and keeping your feet warm.
 
To prepare your shoes for class, knot the binding elastic when the shoe is on the foot to ensure the proper tension and then cut off the excess. Not all of it, you will need to have a couple of inches if you ever need to retie them. Then, when wearing the shoes in class tuck the remaining elastic into the shoe to create a smooth foot line. You do not want to see any of the binding when heading into class!
Required dress for ballet classes:
  • Girls: Pink leather ballet shoes, pink tights, any color leotard, and a short chiffon skirt.
  • Boys: Black leather ballet shoes, white socks, black tights/pants, white or black tee shirt.
  • Adults can wear whatever they feel most comfortable in. There is no wrong answer!

Missed classes:
Missed classes can be made up in any other level appropriate ballet class. No refunds will be given for missed classes.  You will have one 8 week session after the session you registered for to make up a missed class. You may also make up a class in another style of dance offered at Room To Move. Some exclusions apply. Check with us before hand to be sure.
